Sri Lanka ETA Double Entry vs Extension: Planning a Longer Trip

Sri Lanka ETA Double Entry vs Extension: Planning a Longer Trip

A second entry does not reset a 30-day Sri Lanka tourist ETA. Compare a return visit within the existing period with an application to extend your stay.

Double entry and an extension solve different problems. The official short-visit guidance describes a 30-day tourist ETA with double entry; on the second visit, the traveler receives the balance of the original 30-day period. It is not a new 30-day allowance each time you arrive.

If you want to stay longer, examine the official extension route rather than assuming a brief exit or a second private ETA purchase extends the original permission.

Choose the question that matches your itinerary

Your planWhat to checkWhat not to assume
One visit fitting the permission grantedThe dates and conditions on the issued recordThat a private product label overrides the actual permission
Leave and return during the original periodWhether the second entry and remaining days fit the recordThat the return starts another full 30 days
Remain beyond the authorized periodThe authority's extension process, conditions and deadlineThat buying a new pre-arrival ETA is an in-country extension
Return after the relevant permission has expiredThe correct route for a later visit and any existing-visa restrictionsThat an unused entry alone keeps an expired record valid

Check the actual authorization and entry conditions. Eligibility and fees still depend on the applicable circumstances; this table is a planning aid.

A side-trip example

Imagine a traveler enters Sri Lanka, takes a short trip elsewhere and then returns before the end of the original permitted period. The time left on return follows the original allowance described by the official guidance. Do not move the end date forward simply because a new flight lands later.

Write the permission's actual end date beside both sets of flights and accommodation bookings. If the planned return stay goes beyond that date, identify the correct permission before relying on the itinerary. The entry arrangements of the side-trip destination are a separate question.

What a “60-day” search result may mean

A page mentioning 60 days may be describing an extension stage, another product or an older arrangement. The number alone does not prove that a standard new 60-day tourist ETA is available through your chosen channel.

The official extension guidance directs visitors wishing to stay beyond the initial period to the Department or its online extension service. Follow that service's current conditions instead of treating the extension as another purchase of the ordinary pre-arrival product.

This website's application form and processing add-ons should not be read as an extension service unless that service is explicitly offered for the case. An in-country visitor should not select a new arrival date simply to make a new ETA form accept the application.

Check an existing ETA before paying again

Keep the passport, issued notice and actual entry information together. The official FAQ contains restrictions on fresh applications where an ETA or certain visas remain valid. If the right route is unclear, ask the authority using the existing reference rather than submitting several applications.

When priority private assistance can help

If you need a new eligible pre-arrival application, our optional Urgent handling within 5 business hours adds US$69.99 per traveler. It prioritizes preparation and submission; it does not extend an existing permission or guarantee an authority decision.

Review processing, compare the full fees, and start a new application with Urgent handling only when that is the appropriate route.
